The forest was deep, dark, almost mystical – ancient trees, mossy tussocks, rare glimpses of blue sky through the dense canopy. On the peack of the Gargano, it is inhabited from the Paleolithic. Popes and Emperors have lived here. Really important is the raid in made by Dragut Rais, that is remembered by the "La Chianca Amara", close to the Cathedral.
If you want to visit the historical center, we suggest you to start from Porta di Sopra (Porta ad Alt) up to Porta di Ridotto (Porta d'Basc'). You will see the Cathedral and the Baptistery (Auditorium S. Giovanni), the Episcopate, the Civic museum and the Castle.
From the square in front of the Giudecca one can see the Church and the Bastion of San Francesco with its typical trabucco. The visits at the Trabucco, made with the WWF, are made on request in summer. Before living the ancient village, you must stop at the Seggio square with its solar clock and a visit at the artisan small shops, where to buy typical food and wine.
